JULIA PUTNAM, MA, LMFT
I believe that people have the ability to change their situation through the strengths and resources they already have, and that problems exist when these strengths are not being recognized or utilized. I truly believe in the power of hope, and helping clients gain awareness around the positives in their lives and their own abilities to change their situations for the better. I think we’re all guilty of getting caught up in the day-to-day and don’t take the time we need to reflect on our situations, and my hope is to provide that space for those who walk through my door.
My training is in Marriage and Family Therapy and I use this background in every session, even if I’m working with an individual client. I believe that we as people do not exist in a vacuum and we are who we are in part due to the relationships, experiences, and stories within our lives. We influence others just as others influence us, and I believe this is an important aspect of growing and becoming more self-aware.
I earned my Masters Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Regis University in Denver, Colorado. Prior to working in private practice, I worked in the wilderness therapy setting, residential treatment, community mental health, and community-based mentoring. I believe that my wide range of experience has helped me work with many different people in all different situations and in all walks of life.
When I’m not helping others learn and grow, I try to take actions to do so myself. I love to go on adventures and spend time outdoors, just as I am content enjoying quiet time and connecting with the people I love. My biggest joys come from spending time with my husband, our two boys, and our very fluffy cat.

““I know of no more encouraging fact than the unquestionable ability of man to elevate his life by a conscious endeavour. It is something to be able to paint a particular picture, or to carve a statue, and so to make a few objects beautiful; but it is far more glorious to carve and paint the very atmosphere and medium through which we look, which morally we can do. To affect the quality of the day, that is the highest of arts.”
— Henry David Thoreau, Walden
